We’re Kim and Scott – old home lovers, DIY-ers and music enthusiasts – sharing the journey of our renovations and family on our blog, Yellow Brick Home. We live, work and play with our sweet girl and rescue pup in Chicago, and we can’t imagine putting down our roots anywhere else in the world. Nurturing old homes back to health is a passion-turned-career, and our idea of a fun afternoon is virtual house hunting and daydreaming about the next fixer upper. When we’re not DIY-ing our way through a project, you can find us having family dance parties in our living room, riding our tandem bicycle, or perfecting our margarita recipe (the secret is always an extra pinch of salt).

Tree House is a sweet retreat nestled among the trees in the heart of Harbor Country. In the spring of 2017, we fell in love with this small town in southwestern Michigan after spending a long weekend in the area. That same year – just four months after that weekend away! – we were closing on the cutest little cottage that we’ve lovingly dubbed our Tree House. Originally a 3-season home with no HVAC system, we spent 3 years pouring all of our love into a renovation. We added heat and air conditioning, refinished the original hardwood floors, rebuilt the kitchen and bathroom from the ground up, and turned the sleeping loft into Harbor Country’s best kept secret. This is where we sleep in (very) late, fill up on pancakes, run up and down the sand dunes, collect beach stones and enjoy all that Michigan has to offer, and we invite you in to do the same.

We share before, progress and after photos on Yellow Brick Home, if you’d like to see! You’ll also find a full shoppable list of items and paint colors we’ve used throughout Tree House.
